The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Ocloo, in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), has commenced a major demolition exercise at Bush Road in the La Dadekotopon Municipality as part of efforts to address flooding in Accra.

Speaking in an interview with Adom News, Madam Ocloo said the exercise forms part of a broader strategy by the Assembly to tackle the capital’s perennial flooding challenges.

She explained that unauthorized structures built along the lagoon have reduced its capacity to contain excess rainwater, making their removal necessary to restore the natural flow of water.

The Regional Minister added that similar demolition exercises will be carried out in other flood-prone areas where illegal developments have encroached on waterways.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, disclosed that occupants of the affected structures were served with demolition notices several days before the exercise began.

Leading the operation, the Director-General of NADMO, Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon, cautioned against indiscipline, stressing that the organisation will not tolerate unlawful developments on waterways.

He warned that individuals who flout regulations by building in such areas will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
