President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned a new fleet of vehicles for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance military mobility and operational efficiency.

The vehicles — comprising pick-up trucks, buses and Land Cruisers — were commissioned at the 2025 West African Soldiers’ Social Activity (WASSA) held at the forecourt of the Department of Public Relations in Accra on Friday, January 23, 2026.

According to the President, the new fleet is intended to strengthen troop movement, logistics support and rapid response capabilities across all three services of the Armed Forces.
He noted that improved mobility is crucial to sustaining internal security operations and enabling swift responses to emerging threats.

President Mahama reaffirmed the government’s commitment to retooling and modernising the military, stressing that the safety and security of Ghana and its citizens depend largely on a well-equipped and motivated Armed Forces.

He also commended officers, soldiers and defence civilian staff for their discipline and sacrifices in safeguarding national peace.
The Acting Minister for Defence, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, praised the President for his continued support for the Armed Forces, describing the commissioning of the vehicles as a timely intervention that would significantly enhance operational effectiveness.
