The Kwadaso Municipal Assembly’s environmental department has cleared a long-standing refuse dump at Ohwimase near the market and Apatrapa Basic School.
The waste dump has been posing health hazards to residents for almost eight months.
The evacuation exercise aimed to promote responsible waste disposal was lead the Municipal Chief Executive, Eric Asibey.
In an interview with Adom News, he explained that the refuse had piled up unintentionally.
He stated that the Assembly had outsourced the dumping refuse site clearance to a private waste management company, but they have been slacking and have not done their job.
He added that the Assembly could not ignore the issue, so they stepped in to clear and disinfect the site as well.
He called on residents to keep the area tidy and join forces with the Assembly to boost sanitation efforts.
Mr. Asibey warned residents, drivers, mates, and vendors to desist from dumping trash around Sofoline, adding that anyone caught will be prosecuted.
“We won’t tolerate indiscriminate dumping. We’ll prosecute offenders to maintain proper sanitation in the municipality,” he cautioned.
The MCE’s warning comes as part of efforts to address sanitation challenges in the area, with the assembly working to improve waste management and enforce environmental bye-laws.
“We’ve revamped the Town Council unit ‘Nsamasaman’ and will be conducting inspections at homes, markets, and shops. If you’re caught dumping waste indiscriminately, expect a summons,” he warned.
He said the assembly will distribute more designated waste bins to support efforts to improve sanitation in the municipality.
The Assembly is stepping up efforts to improve waste management and enforce environmental laws, aiming to address sanitation issues in the area.
The Assembly Member for Ohwemase electoral area, Isaac Owusu also expressed gratitude to the municipal assembly led for efforts to improve sanitation in the area.
He assured the MCE of his support and pledged to work residents to maintain cleanliness.
He therefore urged the residents to wait for designated waste bins instead of dumping waste Indiscriminately.
