Chairman of the NPP Presidential Elections Committee, Joseph Osei Owusu, has expressed deep concern about the current state of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), stressing the need for firm and disciplined leadership to restore the party’s appeal.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Osei Owusu said the NPP requires a national chairman with the level of firmness exhibited by NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, whom he credited with making the opposition party more attractive, particularly to the youth.

He noted with concern that some young people in his area are drifting from the NPP to the NDC, attributing the trend to leadership and organisational weaknesses within the party.

According to him, internal elections often favour popularity over competence, a situation he believes the party must urgently address.

Mr. Osei Owusu therefore called for a deliberate search for competent leaders and endorsed former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko as someone capable of restoring discipline and strengthening the party, should he decide to contest for the position of national chairman.

“To bring back the NPP’s appeal, we need to do things differently and restore discipline. I believe Boakye Agyarko fits the kind of leadership the party needs at this time,” he said.
