The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Western Region has cautioned residents whose buildings and movable structures will be affected by the road expansion within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis against transferring meters without notifying the company.
Engineer Emmanuel Ofori, the General Manager of ECG in the Region, said as part of the road expansion project within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, some buildings and movable structures with ECG meters would be affected.
However, he cautioned that ECG meters were not to be transferred without first seeking the company’s approval.
Meters are registered with unique geographical codes and Service Point Numbers (SPNs), which help identify the specific locations of the meters.
Thus, when meters are transferred unlawfully, they pose a challenge to tracing the meters, which could disrupt billing.
“Meters transferred without recourse to the company may be deemed stolen, and the matter referred to the law enforcement agencies for redress,” he added.
Emmanuel Sam, the Regional Commercial Manager, stressed that movable structures with ECG meters may be permitted to be transferred with the ECG meter upon investigation, certification, and ECG approval.
On the ongoing road expansion project in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, he stated that the ECG had set up a special team to remove affected meters for safekeeping.
He assured affected customers that their meters would be kept by the ECG and installed at their new locations when they were ready.
Mr Sam urged customers who had already removed their meters to return them to the nearest ECG office.
He stated that the ECG was collaborating with the relevant authorities to ensure smooth coordination of the evacuation process.
