It was a heartbreaking moment on Thursday, January 22, 2026, as seven residents of Sefwi Asuopiri who perished in a tragic accident were laid to rest.

The mass burial service took place at the Sefwi Asuopiri Community Centre in the Bia West District of the Western North Region. Family members were visibly overcome with emotion, breaking down in tears as mourners offered their condolences.

The Western North Regional Minister, Petty Brentum Wilbert, mourned the deceased on behalf of the government and extended condolences to the bereaved families.

The victims lost their lives in an accident on January 7, 2026, when a tricycle, locally known as an aboboyaa, carrying seven market women, collided head-on with a speeding timber-laden truck.

Eyewitnesses said the tricycle rider swerved in a bid to avoid the collision, but the truck struck the vehicle with full force, killing all occupants instantly.

The deceased include one male and six females: 64-year-old Isaac Acquah, 70-year-old Akua Bronya, 70-year-old Yaa Ampomah, 64-year-old Dora Asiedu, 62-year-old Ama Yamoawa, 55-year-old Cecilia Samah, and 53-year-old Elizabeth Asiedu. Five of the victims are reported to be from the same family.
