Chiefs and elders of Logba Alakpeti in the Afadzato South District of the Volta Region have called for justice following the murder of a 35-year-old farmer, describing the killing as senseless and a serious threat to peace in the community.
Addressing a press conference at Logba Alakpeti, the Chief of the area, Togbe Adza Adiaku V, together with sub-chiefs, elders and residents, expressed deep grief and outrage over what they described as a recurring pattern of violent attacks on their people.
The attacks are allegedly being carried out by individuals from neighbouring communities, including Avatime Fume, Dzokpe Old Town and Dzokpe New Town.
According to Togbe Adza Adiaku V, the latest killing is the fourth such incident since his installation as chief in 1990. He recalled previous cases, including the murders of Akuma Kofi, a teacher trainee; Kokatse Kpogo, popularly known as Korku Morte; and King Anyormekye, who was killed on December 26, 2025.
The chief warned that the repeated incidents have created fear and insecurity in the community, noting that farmers, students and other innocent residents are increasingly under threat.
He called on government and the security agencies to take urgent action to end the killings and ensure that perpetrators face the full rigours of the law. Togbe Adza Adiaku V stressed that the community is not seeking revenge but justice, insisting that the matter must be prosecuted in court rather than settled through private compensation.
He acknowledged the arrest of a suspect, Korkpoe Kmla Opete, describing it as a step in the right direction, but urged the police to expedite investigations and ensure swift prosecution.
The chief also appealed to residents to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands, assuring them that traditional authorities will work closely with security agencies to prevent the situation from escalating into conflict.
Togbe Adza Adiaku V concluded by calling on the government to strengthen security in the area to protect lives, while urging neighbouring communities to reflect on their actions and promote peaceful coexistence.
