Anthony Abayifaa Karbo, Senior Advisor to the Bawumia campaign, has claimed that many election-related prophecies by Ghanaian pastors are not spiritual revelations but are based on political data and strategy.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, the former Lawra MP said political actors sometimes provide poll figures to religious leaders to shape public perception ahead of elections, noting that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) engaged in this practice while in opposition.
He added that polling data is often more reliable than prophetic declarations during election seasons.
“Today, I have been seeing prophets prophesying about things, but when we were in opposition, we were giving them the polls data to prophesy,” Karbo said.
He explained that while he would not disclose the names of those involved, some pastors were being fed political statistics to craft election messages. “We gave them the polls data and told them that the economic management team has provided statistics showing who is winning or losing, and they arranged it in a prophecy,” he added.
Karbo also questioned the consistency of some prophetic claims, suggesting that genuine insight should not be geographically limited. “If any pastor claims that he sees things, he should open branches in the five northern regions. Why is he always in Accra?” he asked.
His remarks come amid growing public debate about the role of religion in politics ahead of the NPP’s presidential primary scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026.
