Former Great Olympics Coach Annor Walker to be laid to rest this weekend

Veteran Ghanaian football coach Annor Walker will be laid to rest this weekend in his hometown of Prampram in the Greater Accra Region, with burial scheduled for Saturday, January 24, 2026.

The former Great Olympics head coach passed away on October 1, 2025, after a brief illness at his residence in Accra.

His mortal remains will be conveyed from the morgue to Mandela Park in Prampram on Friday, where funeral rites will begin. The body will lie in state at the same venue for public viewing ahead of burial on Saturday.

Annor Walker enjoyed a distinguished coaching career, working with several clubs including Great Olympics, Nania FC, Kpando Hearts of Lions and Berekum Chelsea.

A CAF Licence A holder, he etched his name into Ghanaian football history by guiding Nania FC to a memorable 2011 MTN FA Cup triumph over Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium.

In 2020, Walker returned to Great Olympics and assembled one of the club’s most competitive teams in recent years. Despite battling health challenges, he made a remarkable return to the touchline, steering the side into the upper ranks of the Ghana Premier League.

He also served as head coach of the Black Galaxies, leading the team to the 2023 African Nations Championship in Algeria. His final coaching role was with Ghana Premier League side Vision FC.

Annor Walker is widely remembered for his tactical discipline, keen eye for talent and lasting contribution to the growth and development of Ghanaian football.
