The Adansi Asokwa District Assembly has launched the Nkoko Nketenkete poultry project by distributing 10,000 chickens to over 150 farmers in the district.

The launch and handover ceremony was held at Tewubaabi in the Ashanti Region, with the Adansi Asokwa Member of Parliament (MP) and the District Chief Executive (DCE) overseeing the initiative.

The project is designed to boost local poultry farming and strengthen food security in the district.

The birds were initially reared and cared for by the government and have now been handed over to the participating farmers, who are expected to maintain them under proper husbandry practices.

Farmers were encouraged to follow the guidance of veterinary officers to ensure the health and productivity of the chickens.

Officials from the assembly said periodic monitoring visits will be conducted to ensure compliance with best farming practices and to provide technical support where necessary.

The beneficiaries expressed optimism about the project’s potential to increase poultry production in the district.

Some called on the government to reduce taxes on poultry feed, citing high production costs as a barrier to scaling up operations. Others emphasized the benefits of producing local poultry, noting that it would reduce reliance on imports and promote self-sufficiency.

The Nkoko Nketenkete project is part of the district’s broader strategy to support agriculture-based livelihoods and create sustainable economic opportunities for rural communities.

By providing both resources and technical guidance, the assembly hopes to empower farmers, improve local poultry supply, and contribute to the district’s economic growth.
