Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku believes the senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, are not far from winning the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
His comments followed the draw for the 2026 WAFCON, which will be staged in Morocco later this year.
Ghana have been placed in Group D alongside Mali, Cameroon and Cape Verde.
Reacting to the group pairing, Okraku pointed to Ghana’s performance at the previous tournament as evidence of the team’s growing strength.
“On the back of the fact that Ghana were third at the last WAFCON, Ghana should be ready to face any opponent.
“The Black Queens should be able to play against any side on the African continent if you want to become champions,” he said.
Mr Okraku also restated Ghana’s long-term ambition, making it clear that the ultimate target remains continental glory.
“The ambition of the nation is to win the trophy, and I think that we are not far away from that,” he stated.
At the tournament, the top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, while the four semifinalists will secure automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, scheduled to be hosted in Brazil.
