The Member of Parliament for Damongo and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has described former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as one of Ghana’s best leaders, saying history will be kind to his legacy.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Jinapor said criticisms portraying President Akufo-Addo as the worst leader do not concern him, noting that history is not written in the moment but over time.
According to him, despite the economic challenges Ghana faced under Akufo-Addo, his overall record will stand tall when assessed in totality.
Mr. Jinapor maintained that, when all is said and done, Nana Akufo-Addo’s name will be written in gold in Ghana’s history for the considerable work he did for the country.
“The narrative labeling Akufo-Addo as the worst president doesn’t concern me because, as a student of history, I understand that history is not written in real time. When Kwame Nkrumah was overthrown, many celebrated, but history has ultimately recognized his significant contributions. I firmly believe that, in time, Akufo-Addo’s contributions to Ghana will be acknowledged, and his name will be enshrined in our nation’s history.
“He is one of the best presidents Ghana has had, having accomplished a great deal for the country. Yes, the national economy encountered difficulties due to external factors, and some interventions implemented to facilitate recovery caused hardship for some Ghanaians. This is something we must acknowledge, and even Akufo-Addo has admitted it. However, administrations should not be judged solely on one intervention; it is the totality of their work that matters. Ultimately, when all is said and done, President Akufo-Addo’s record will stand tall,” he said.
