Asante Kotoko Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, has insisted that the club will not rush into making decisions regarding the head coach or technical team despite growing unrest among supporters.
Kotoko, led by Karim Zito, are yet to record a win this year, a run that has heightened frustration among fans. Defeat to Swedru All Stars and a goalless home draw against Berekum Chelsea over the weekend have left the Porcupine Warriors six points adrift at the top of the league table.
Speaking to Luv FM, Duku acknowledged the pressure but stressed that hasty decisions would not be in the club’s best interest.
“When the expectations of our supporters are not being met, the immediate focus is usually on sacking the coach or making changes to the technical team. But I can assure you that we will not rush into taking such decisions,” he said.
“We believe that over the years this has been the trend, and the question is: has it been helpful? No. So we will not rush into doing that. What we are doing is a proper and fair assessment of the situation,” he added.
Duku revealed that management is currently engaging all stakeholders, including players, technical team members and the medical team, to identify the root causes of the club’s struggles.
“We are engaging all the parties involved to find out what the problems actually are before coming to any conclusion. Otherwise, we sack the coach and go back to square one, which has been the trend. This time, we will not rush into such a decision,” he explained.
He appealed to supporters for patience and emphasised the need for stability and consistency at the club.
“I will plead with the fans to exercise patience. We need consistency for once. The technical team we brought in have not even spent up to one year, and in football, you need to give people enough time to achieve results,” Duku said.
He added that management would not hesitate to act if the assessment points clearly to the need for change, but maintained that frequent coaching dismissals should be a thing of the past.
“If it becomes obvious where the problem is coming from, we will make a decision in the best interest of the club. But the usual sacking of coaches when results are not good should be a thing of the past,” he stated.
Asante Kotoko will next travel to Bibiani to face GoldStars on Saturday.
