Police arrest nine suspects over assault on officers, bust notorious robbery-rapist gang

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested nine individuals suspected of attacking public officers on January 3, 2026, at Tweapease in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region.

Deputy Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, ACP Cephas Arthur, provided details of the arrests and ongoing investigations at a press conference held today at the Bekwai Regional Headquarters.

The nine suspects, aged between 17 and 40, are Alex Sarfo (22), Roland Asiedu (18), Desmond Obideaba (17), Emmanuel Agveman (19), Isaac Dwumfour (21), Evans Bannor (23), Joshua Frimpong (24), Yaw Alex (38), and William Bannor (40).

The victims, Lance Corporal Michael Quarshie of the Regional FPU Base in Kumasi and Emmanuel Kusi, a private security officer with TW Mines, were providing security for a football match organized by the company when they were ambushed by a mob.

The suspects allegedly beat the officers severely and attempted to snatch the police officer’s firearm.

The nine suspects were arraigned before the Bekwai Circuit Court on January 8, 2026, and remanded to reappear on January 21, 2026. ACP Arthur also confirmed that police are actively searching for Rabbi Buabeng, identified as the ringleader of the mob.
