The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that it has revoked relevant provisions of its constitution to begin the process of expelling former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng.
The move follows comments made by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng on Accra-based Channel One TV on January 12, 2026, in which he described the NPP as a “fake party” and said he no longer considers himself a member.
He also alleged that the party’s 2023 presidential primary was manipulated in favour of then Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
In response, a statement signed by NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Koduah described the comments as “highly reprehensible” and contrary to the party’s values, integrity, and unity.
The statement added that the NPP strongly rejects the description of the party as “fake” and dismissed the claims of rigging as unsubstantiated.
Regarding the primaries, the party insisted that the exercise was conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and credible manner, reflecting the will of delegates across the country.
