The Ghana Air Traffic Safety Electronics Association (GHATSEA) has formally announced its intention to embark on strike action, citing unresolved long-standing labour issues with the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
In a notice dated January 5, 2026, GHATSEA stated that the strike is in accordance with Sections 159 and 160 of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651), which mandates at least seven days’ notice before any lawful industrial action.
The Association explained that the decision comes after repeated engagements, dialogue, mediation, and arbitration processes failed to yield satisfactory outcomes, despite its willingness to negotiate in good faith.
GHATSEA recalled that in 2016, a dispute with GCAA was referred to the National Labour Commission (NLC), during which management had classified its members as non-essential workers. The Association highlighted that GCAA now considers its members essential in the current dispute, a contradiction that raises serious concerns.
The notice confirms that GHATSEA is taking the required legal steps to proceed with industrial action, while urging management to address the issues to avert disruption in air traffic operations.
