The newly enstooled Mawerehene of Akyem Akoase in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region, Nana Ama Serwaa, has appealed to government, private investors and development partners to support the expansion of the community’s poultry industry as a strategy to tackle youth unemployment.
Speaking at a durbar held to officially introduce her to the people of Akyem Akoase, Nana Ama Serwaa said unemployment among the youth remains a major challenge in the area, fueling rural–urban migration and contributing to social vices.
She explained that Akoase has vast tracts of land and favourable environmental conditions suitable for large-scale poultry farming, stressing that with the right investment and support, the sector could employ many young people and improve living standards in the community.
The Mawerehene noted that expanding poultry production would not only create jobs but also boost local food supply and economic activity, and called for partnerships that would provide training, financing and modern equipment for young farmers.
In his remarks, the Chief of Akyem Akoase, Osabarima Gyasi Aduako Boateng II, congratulated Nana Ama Serwaa on her enstoolment and urged her to uphold the customs and traditions of the stool.
He advised her to work closely with the traditional council and respect due process, while maintaining strong ties with her family, particularly her mother, as she discharges her duties.
The durbar was attended by traditional leaders, opinion leaders and residents, who expressed optimism that the new Mawerehene’s focus on poultry farming could open up employment opportunities and drive development in Akoase.
