GIS hands over officer to police in ammunition trafficking investigation

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has confirmed the arrest of one of its officers in connection with an ongoing ammunition trafficking investigation by the Ghana Police Service.

In a press release dated January 6, 2026, the GIS said Assistant Immigration Control Officer I (AICO I) Ahmed Abdul Samad was handed over to the police upon formal request to assist with investigations into his alleged involvement in transporting a large quantity of ammunition intercepted by the authorities.

The Service emphasized that it will not shield any officer whose actions threaten public safety or undermine the integrity of the institution, assuring the public of its full cooperation with the police.

The GIS added that firm disciplinary action will be taken against any officer found culpable, in accordance with the law and established procedures.

The Service reiterated its commitment to national security, professionalism, and accountability as investigations continue.
