AFC Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola has conceded that the club is set to lose a “top and incredible” player in Antoine Semenyo, with the Ghana international poised to complete a move to Manchester City.
Semenyo is expected to undergo a medical later today ahead of the proposed transfer, bringing the curtain down on an impressive spell with the Cherries.
The 25-year-old marked what appears to be his final outing for Bournemouth in dramatic fashion, scoring the decisive goal in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at the Vitality Stadium.
At full-time, an emotional Semenyo was applauded warmly by supporters, acknowledging what felt like a farewell moment.
Reflecting on the winger’s impact since arriving from Bristol City two years ago, Iraola was full of praise, describing him as one of the finest players he has worked with.
“A top professional,” Iraola continued. “We are not [only] losing an incredible player but one of the best players I have ever coached.
“He is a top guy, so full of energy and ready for whatever you need him. I am sure he will continue his development because he has improved every season with us.”
Semenyo has enjoyed a standout campaign, scoring 10 goals in 19 appearances for Bournemouth this season, performances that have now earned him a move to the Premier League champions.
