A road crash occurred at the Sawla Weighing Bridge along the Sawla–Wa stretch in the Savannah Region in the early hours of Friday, January 3, 2026.
The accident involved a maize-laden DAF truck with registration number AS 1852-T, travelling from Wa to Bole with seven male occupants on board.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the truck veered off the road, collided with a tree, and overturned into nearby bushland, sustaining severe damage to its front section.

The impact trapped the driver inside the mangled vehicle. Rescue operations were conducted by personnel from the Sawla–Tuna–Kalba District Command, supported by the Savannah Regional Headquarters Rescue Team.

The driver was successfully extricated alive and transported to hospital by ambulance for medical attention.

Six other occupants had earlier been rescued by members of the public and taken to the Sawla District Hospital before emergency responders arrived.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.
