The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has successfully neutralised a suspected armed robbery gang in an intelligence-led operation near Manso Antoakrom in the Ashanti Region.

Police received intelligence on December 31, 2025, indicating that a group of armed robbers had gathered along the Antoakrom–Manso Nkwanta road, reportedly preparing to attack unsuspecting commuters.

A patrol team was immediately dispatched to the area. On arrival, the suspects allegedly opened fire on officers while attempting to flee. Police returned fire in self-defence, resulting in two suspects being shot, while two others believed to be injured escaped into nearby bushes.

The injured suspects were rushed to Bekwai Government Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival. The deceased were identified as Mohammed Umaru, aged 28, and Yaw Frimpong, also known as Nana Yaw, aged 26.

A search at the scene led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle with four rounds of ammunition, a pump-action gun loaded with four BB cartridges, four spent BB cartridges, a black bag containing sixteen live cartridges, and a black Toyota Voxy vehicle with registration number AS 6412-25.

ACP Cephas Arthur, Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, stated that the suspects were linked to several violent robberies across the country, including the Mpohor gold robbery involving gold valued at about $3.2 million, the Nyinahini highway robbery that resulted in the death of a Voxy driver, and a cocoa shed robbery at Sefwi.

He reminded the public of earlier appeals for the voluntary surrender of illegal firearms, warning that those in possession of such weapons would face arrest.

ACP Arthur added that police are actively pursuing the escaped suspects and their accomplices, urging hospitals and the public to report anyone presenting with suspected gunshot wounds to the nearest police station or the Ashanti South Regional Police Command.
