New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of harbouring lingering resentment over his role in the 2016 elections, alleging that this has driven attempts to undermine his bid to lead the NPP.

Addressing party supporters in the Okaikwei South Constituency, Dr. Bawumia said the NDC often responds with insults whenever his name is mentioned, a reaction he attributed to the impact of his campaign during the 2016 elections.

“The 2016 campaign was a heated one, and that is why the NDC does not like me,” he said, stressing that he remains undeterred by the criticism.

He further alleged that the NDC is actively seeking to influence the NPP’s upcoming flagbearer primary, preferring that delegates vote for another candidate instead of him.

“Do you know that the NDC does not want you to vote for me in the primary, but rather for someone else? Why should another party decide who becomes the candidate of your party? I do not believe the people of Okaikwei South will allow that,” he added.
