The Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) has unveiled its strategic direction for 2026, prioritising data-driven decision-making, innovation, and strong leadership to scale sustainable private education across Ghana.
In a New Year message, GNACOPS National Executive Director, Obenfo Nana Kwasi Gyetuah, said the theme for 2026, “Scaling Sustainable Private Education through Data and Pathways,” reflects the Council’s readiness to lead system-wide reforms in the sector.
Looking back at 2025, Mr. Gyetuah highlighted the resilience of private schools under GNACOPS, noting their contributions through scholarships, feeding programmes, teacher development, and digital learning initiatives, particularly in underserved communities. He acknowledged, however, that many sustainability efforts were difficult to measure and scale.
For 2026, GNACOPS plans to shift focus towards evidence-based policies, multiple learning pathways, and scalable innovations aligned with national education priorities. The Council will pursue three main pillars: data-driven quality and accountability, diversified learning pathways for students, and scalable innovation.
Mr. Gyetuah revealed plans to develop a Private Education Data and Indicators Framework to guide policy, improve quality, and strengthen trust among parents, government, and partners. He also announced initiatives to support academic, technical, digital, entrepreneurial, and special-needs pathways, preparing learners for the job market and responsible citizenship.
GNACOPS currently supports approximately 3.9 million learners and over 300,000 teachers nationwide, representing nearly half of Ghana’s basic education population.
He called on government, development partners, and stakeholders to collaborate with GNACOPS in building a private education system that is scalable, accountable, and transformative in 2026 and beyond.
