The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of a suspect linked to a brazen daytime robbery at a jewellery shop in Adabraka, Accra, during which GH¢7.5 million was taken.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, December 31, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, explained that the stolen cash was the proceeds from a gold transaction and was en route to a bank when the attack occurred.
The suspect, Salim Mohammed, popularly known as Fawata, was arrested on November 20, 2025, at a hospital in Ashaiman, where he had reportedly gone to seek medical care. His arrest followed months of sustained, intelligence-driven police operations.
Initial investigations indicate that Mohammed and other members of the gang, wielding AK-47 rifles, intercepted the victims’ vehicle, fired multiple shots to intimidate bystanders, and wounded the driver before escaping with the money.
COP Donkor assured the public that efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining suspects and retrieve the stolen funds, stressing the police service’s commitment to ensuring justice and public safety.
