The Obuasi Divisional Police Command has arrested 25 suspected criminal elements, popularly referred to as “Ghetto boys and girls,” during a special security operation across parts of the municipality.

The arrests were carried out in areas including Kofekrom, Bedieso, Gawusu, Kyekyewere and Dadwen as part of efforts to clamp down on crime during the festive season.

Of the suspects, 21 are males while four are females. Police say some of them were involved in the sale of suspected marijuana, tramore and other unlawful activities.

Speaking to Adom News at the Obuasi Central Police Station, the Divisional Operations Commander, ASP Robert Adommbila Apelkiwine, explained that the operation began last week to rid the municipality of criminal activity and allow residents to celebrate Christmas in a peaceful atmosphere.

He noted that the police command remains determined to sustain the operation through the end of the year, particularly on December 31, to ensure residents can attend watchnight services without fear of robbery or attacks.

ASP Apelkiwine assured the public that the police will maintain a strong presence across Obuasi to guarantee calm and security as the year draws to a close.
