The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has carried out a major raid on illegal mining activities in Akyem Oda, Birim Central Municipality, resulting in the arrest of five Chinese nationals involved in unlawful mining along the Birim River.
During the operation on Monday, December 29, authorities seized and immobilised two excavators, along with a Toyota Hilux and a Toyota Land Cruiser used by the suspects.
Makeshift structures, water pumps, and other mining equipment were also destroyed to prevent further illicit operations.
NAIMOS has affirmed its commitment to ongoing crackdowns on illegal mining, particularly along major water bodies, throughout the festive season to reduce environmental pollution and protect local communities.
