The Savannah Regional Police Command has taken 27 suspects into custody for alleged drug-related offences following a special Christmas security operation conducted across parts of the region.

The arrests were made in Salaga, Damongo, Buipe and Bole as part of intensified policing efforts aimed at curbing crime and ensuring public safety during the festive period.

In a statement on the Ghana Police Service’s official Facebook page on December 26, the police said the suspects, made up of both men and women, were found with quantities of suspected narcotic drugs, including dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp.

According to the police, the operation forms part of broader preventive measures to clamp down on drug abuse and related criminal activities, especially during periods of increased public movement and social gatherings.

The suspects remain in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations, after which they are expected to be processed in accordance with the law.
