The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced that the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has commenced tie-in and test run activities to connect the newly completed AKSA Anwomaso Power Plant to the national electricity transmission grid.
In a press statement signed by the Head of Communication, Richmond Rockson, the Ministry said the exercise forms part of ongoing system improvement efforts aimed at strengthening power generation capacity and enhancing the reliability of electricity supply across the country.
Once fully integrated, the AKSA Anwomaso Power Plant is expected to add approximately 141 megawatts of power to the national grid. The additional capacity is projected to improve electricity supply to homes, businesses and industries, particularly within the middle belt and surrounding areas.
The Ministry noted that the tie-in and testing process may result in brief and temporary power interruptions in some locations. However, it assured the public that the operations are being carefully coordinated to safeguard the safety and stability of the transmission system.
According to the Ministry, the exercise is being carried out in the national interest, with a long-term focus on improving system resilience and service delivery. It further assured consumers that it is working closely with relevant agencies in the energy sector to sustain a stable power supply during the Christmas period and beyond—a target the sector has largely maintained throughout 2025.
