Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have come together in a peace football match aimed at promoting unity, peace and stability in Nkwanta South in the Oti Region.

The friendly match, held at the Nkwanta English/Arabic School Park, was organised to reunite residents and revive community spirit following recent unrest and disturbances that have disrupted family life and business activities in the area.

Players drawn from both political parties in the municipal capital displayed their talents, using sports as a platform to foster reconciliation and peaceful coexistence.

Speaking at the event, representatives of both the NDC and NPP welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention to restore calm and encourage development. They noted that recent conflicts have negatively affected growth in the area, highlighting the urgent need for sustained peace.

They stressed the importance of mutual understanding, respect, dialogue and tolerance—regardless of political or ethnic differences—to help rebuild Nkwanta and promote development.

In separate interviews with Adom News, residents lamented that the once-thriving town is gradually losing its economic potential due to ongoing tribal conflicts. They noted that without lasting peace, commercial activities and development cannot flourish in the municipality.

The residents also appealed to the Minister for the Interior and other authorities to review the curfew imposed on the area, saying a possible adjustment would help restore business confidence and stimulate economic activity.

In the entertainment matches, the NPP women’s team defeated the NDC women’s side 2–0, while the NDC men’s team lost narrowly by 2–1. The atmosphere at the park was lively, with brass band music and residents dancing together as a show of unity and commitment to peace.

Officers from the Ghana Police Service were also present, using the occasion to engage residents and reinforce the importance of maintaining peace and security in the community.
