Black Stars winger Joseph Paintsil has vowed that Ghana’s players will give everything as they prepare for a demanding group-stage campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana, making their fifth appearance at the global showpiece, have been drawn into Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama, a section widely regarded as one of the tournament’s toughest.
After suffering group-stage exits at the 2014 and 2022 tournaments in Brazil and Qatar respectively, Paintsil says the current squad is determined to represent the nation with pride and renewed purpose.
“We have to give everything, especially for Ghanaians and the badge,” the LA Galaxy forward told Citi Sports.
“It’s going to be an amazing group stage for us playing against England and Croatia. We will do whatever we have to do, but we will leave the rest to God and see what will happen at the tournament,” he added.
Paintsil described the chance to face elite opposition as a memorable experience, stressing that the team is highly motivated to rise to the occasion.
The 27-year-old recently enjoyed success at club level, winning the MLS Cup with Los Angeles Galaxy during the 2024 season. However, injury setbacks limited his involvement in the 2025 campaign as Galaxy missed out on the playoffs and finished third in the Leagues Cup.
Despite the challenges, Paintsil recorded 10 goals and two assists in 25 appearances across competitions.
Ghana will open their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before facing England on June 23 in Boston. The Black Stars will conclude their group-stage fixtures against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.
