The Asante Professionals Club (APC), a body made up of professionals from diverse fields who hail from the Ashanti Region, is marking its 10th anniversary under the theme “Honouring Our Roots; Shaping Our Future.”
As part of the anniversary activities, the Club will host the 8th edition of its flagship Opemsuo Lecture Series today, Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi.

Speaking on Badwam ahead of the event on Friday, December 19, former President of the Club, Prince Opoku Edusei, highlighted the significance of the lecture series, describing it as a platform aimed at promoting development-oriented discussions that contribute to the progress of Asanteman and Ghana at large.
The Opemsuo Lecture Series is an annual intellectual forum organised by APC to deliberate on topical national development issues. The name Opemsuo is an appellation of King Osei Tutu I, the founder of the Asante Kingdom, whose leadership combined military strength with consensus-building to establish a prosperous and enduring kingdom.

He said this year’s lecture, themed “Impact of Ghanaian Languages on Sustainable Development in Ghana,” will be delivered by Dr. Emmanuel Antwi Fordjour, a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Language and Communication Science, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Dr. Fordjour is expected to draw on his extensive experience in language and communication studies to examine how indigenous Ghanaian languages can drive national development. His keynote address will be followed by a panel discussion featuring four distinguished personalities: Mr. Ivor Agyeman Duah, Director of the Manhyia Palace Museum; Dr. Luther King Kwame Adinkra, a broadcast journalist; Ms. Dorinda Appau, popularly known as Aku Sika, an oral traditional poet; and Osei Bonsu Sarfo Kantanka, a renowned historian and educationist.

The Guest of Honour for the event will be Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, former Minister for Energy and former Member of Parliament for Manhyia South.
The lecture is expected to attract a diverse audience, including politicians, students, traditional leaders, members of the clergy, and representatives from various professional and social groups.
Following the lecture, members of the Club will proceed to Ohwimase M/A Junior High School in the Kwadaso Municipality, where they will cut the sod for the construction of a modern ICT laboratory, which forms part of the Club’s anniversary legacy projects.

Since its establishment in 2015, the Asante Professionals Club has undertaken several impactful initiatives, including school outreach and mentorship programmes, renovation of the Ashanti Library in Kumasi, and support for the maternity ward at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
In 2019, the Club organised the Asanteman Development Summit, which brought together government officials, development practitioners, members of the diplomatic corps, and traditional authorities to discuss the formulation of a 10-year development plan for Asanteman. The summit culminated in the launch of the $100 million Asanteman Development Fund by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
