Former Ghana head coach Kwesi Appiah has expressed optimism about the Black Stars’ prospects at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, backing the team to make a strong impression on the global stage.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia, setting up a competitive opening round.
Speaking on Akoma FM, Appiah, who is currently the head coach of Sudan, said he believes the Black Stars have what it takes to progress from the group and advance deep into the tournament.
“All the teams in the group are beatable, and a team in the World Cup can’t be underrated,” he said.
He added, “We pray that our players don’t sustain any injuries before or during the stages. Nothing is impossible, and we can go far.”
Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before facing England in Boston on June 23. They will conclude the group stage against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.
After disappointing group-stage exits at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the 2022 tournament in Qatar, the Black Stars will be determined to produce a more convincing run at the expanded 2026 finals.
