The Eastern Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Assistant Chief Fire Officer Grade I (ACFO I) Timothy Osafo Affum, has urged residents to exercise caution with fire following a surge in bushfire incidents in the region between January and September 2025.

ACFO I Osafo Affum issued the warning during the commissioning of a renovated fire office at Akyem Bunso.

The facility, refurbished by the Municipal Fire Officer, Divisional Officer Grade II (DO II) Tettey Kwame Kodzi, now includes additional offices and a washroom to enhance service delivery.

Addressing the gathering, the Regional Commander expressed concern over the rising number of bushfires, highlighting their devastating impact on communities and the environment. He called for collective responsibility in preventing fire outbreaks and urged residents to report any suspicious activities that could lead to wildfires, especially during the Christmas festivities.

He also appealed to motorists across the country to observe road safety measures as the festive season approaches, noting the usual spike in accidents caused by speeding, impatience, and disregard for traffic regulations. Drivers were advised to avoid overloading and reckless overtaking, and to prioritise the safe arrival of passengers at their destinations.
