Residents of Agotime-Ziope in the Volta Region have appealed to authorities to provide adequate protective equipment for participants involved in sanitation exercises in the district.
The appeal was made during a clean-up exercise organised by the Environmental Health Officers of the Agotime-Ziope District Assembly at the Agotime-Ziope Health Centre.

Speaking to Adom News, residents commended the Environmental Health Department for sustaining regular clean-up activities to promote hygiene and prevent disease outbreaks. However, they expressed concern that many volunteers participate without basic protective gear such as gloves, nose masks, Wellington boots, and reflective vests, leaving them exposed to potential infections and injuries.

“Sanitation work often involves handling waste, sharp objects, and other hazardous materials, so providing safety equipment is critical to protecting volunteers,” some participants noted.
Residents called on the District Assembly, non-governmental organisations, and other stakeholders to support sanitation efforts by supplying adequate protective gear to ensure the safety and motivation of participants.
Meanwhile, the Regional Environmental Health Officer, Mrs Stella Kumedzro, highlighted the importance of community participation in sanitation activities and urged Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to prioritise the provision of protective equipment. She assured residents that steps are being taken to secure more gear to improve future clean-up exercises.
The exercise formed part of the district’s routine environmental sanitation drive aimed at maintaining a clean and healthy environment, particularly around public health facilities.
