Ghana is set to achieve a historic leap in public service delivery as all six newly created regions prepare to commission their first-ever Passport Application Centres (PACs) this December.

The announcement was made by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who described the development as a major milestone in Ghana’s passport administration.

For the first time in the country’s history, every region will have its own functional PAC, ending years of inconvenience that forced residents in underserved areas to travel long distances just to complete biometric processes.

Ablakwa noted that the initiative fulfils the government’s promise to decentralise passport services nationwide. He highlighted that exactly one year after Ghanaians voted for a national “reset,” the ministry has successfully delivered seven new centres in regions that previously had none.

As part of the reforms, passport application fees have also been slashed by 30 percent; from GH¢500 to GH¢350, a move the minister says is aimed at easing pressure on citizens while making the process more accessible.

He added that the timing is significant, especially as many Ghanaians prepare to travel abroad to support the Black Stars in upcoming tournaments in the United States and Canada.

The newly completed centres are expected to be commissioned within the month.
