Communications Director of Hearts of Oak, Kwame Opare Addo, says the club is following FIFA’s directives as it works to clear the debt owed to former technical director René Hiddink.
The Dutch coach joined the Accra giants in 2023 on a three-year contract but left just eight months into the job.
His departure came with an unpaid balance, leading him to seek intervention from FIFA after the club terminated his deal prematurely.
Hearts of Oak were subsequently handed a transfer ban for failing to settle the outstanding amount of $150,000. The embargo prevents the club from registering new players until the debt is cleared.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Opare Addo disclosed that Hiddink has now taken the matter to a Ghanaian court, despite already securing a ruling from FIFA. He stressed, however, that the club remains committed to honouring the payment.
“René Hiddink has taken our debt case to a Ghanaian court despite the FIFA ruling, but Hearts of Oak is complying with FIFA directives to settle the outstanding debt owed to him,” he said.
He emphasised that the club has no intention of avoiding its obligations.
“Hearts of Oak aren’t reluctant to settle our debt with René Hiddink,” Opare Addo added.
The Phobians are enduring a mixed campaign in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League and currently sit sixth on the table with 18 points from 11 matches.
