Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has announced that more than 4,000 pieces of agricultural machinery will be deployed across 50 districts to enhance farm productivity and mechanisation nationwide.
Presenting the 2026 Budget Statement, Dr. Forson explained that the initiative is part of a major investment in Ghana’s agricultural sector under the new Farmer Service Centres (FSC) programme.
The Minister highlighted the strategic importance of the initiative and its direct benefits for farmers.
“Mr. Speaker, our farmers have always carried Ghana on their shoulders. With these investments, we are returning the favour, giving them the tools, technology, and support to carry the nation into a future of food security and prosperity,” he stated.
He emphasized that the government views agriculture as a key driver of economic revitalisation. “The transformation has begun. Agriculture is not just an occupation; it is the engine of Ghana’s renewal,” he added.
Addressing recent concerns over food oversupply in the country, Dr. Forson said:
“Mr. Speaker, in response to the food glut across the country, President Mahama has directed the immediate release of an additional GH¢200 million to the National Food Buffer Stock Company to purchase and store the excess food, protecting the investment and income of our cherished food crop and poultry farmers.”
The 4,000-plus machines will be distributed to the 50 targeted districts, providing farmers with modern equipment for land preparation, planting, spraying, and harvesting. This combined strategy of boosting production capacity and stabilising markets aims to deliver comprehensive support to the agricultural sector throughout 2026.
A detailed list of the agricultural machinery to be provided, including specific data and figures, will be released to guide implementation and ensure transparency.
