United Party mourns death of six recruits, urges action on youth unemployment

-

The United Party (UP) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of six young recruits at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra earlier today.

Five others are reported to be in intensive care, while twelve remain in critical condition.

In a statement signed by the party’s Director of Communications, Solomon Owusu, the UP extended condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Describing the incident as a painful and avoidable tragedy, the party highlighted the urgent need to address Ghana’s worsening youth unemployment crisis.

“The sheer number of young Ghanaians applying to join the security services is a stark manifestation of the unemployment crisis that continues to rob our nation of its potential,” the statement read.

The UP urged the government to treat the incident as a wake-up call to confront corruption and economic stagnation, which it said have limited opportunities for young people.

The party reiterated its commitment to youth empowerment, job creation, and economic diversification through private sector growth, industrialization, and modern agriculture.

“Ghana’s young men and women deserve more than empty promises; they deserve a country that works for them,” the statement added.
