Minister orders immediate remedial works on Beach Road to ease traffic congestion

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has ordered immediate remedial works to ease the worsening traffic along the Beach Road corridor, stretching from Osu through La to Teshie.

The directive followed an inspection tour of the route, where the Minister, accompanied by engineers and contractors, assessed the condition of several key intersections, including the Ring Road–Beach Road junction, Marley Dada at La Junction, Giffard Road Junction, and the Kpeshie Lagoon Bridge area—all part of previously abandoned road projects along the corridor.

Commenting on the situation, Minister Agbodza said the traffic congestion during peak hours “leaves much to be desired,” causing severe inconvenience to commuters and residents.

“As a remedial action, I have directed immediate measures that will significantly reduce the negative impact of the current situation,” he stated, adding that visible improvements are expected within the next two weeks as teams work to stabilize critical sections and improve traffic flow.

The Beach Road project, initially envisioned as a key coastal link between Accra and Tema, has been stalled for several months, raising concerns among road users. Authorities are optimistic that the latest intervention will provide temporary relief as broader reconstruction efforts resume in phases.

“Together, this one shall also be resolved,” the Minister assured.
