The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the Ghana Police Service have launched a coordinated military-police operation across three regions to apprehend suspects linked to the recent attack on members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS).

According to the Armed Forces, the operation is part of targeted intelligence-led exercises aimed at arresting individuals involved in the assault on the NAIMOS team, as well as some police officers and officials from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), including journalists who were attacked while carrying out their duties.

The statement, signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, explained that the operation, which began on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, is taking place simultaneously in the Ashanti Region (Dwadwene and Anwona), Volta Region (Ehi), and Ahafo Region (Hwidiem, Kenyase, Guaso, and Marhani).

Authorities warned that anyone attempting to obstruct the operations of security services or engaged in illegal mining activities would “face the full force of the law.”

“The Armed Forces and the Police Service wish to assure the general public that adequate measures have been put in place to ensure the safety and security of well-meaning inhabitants of these towns and communities,” the release stated.

Residents have been urged to remain calm and continue their normal activities, with assurances that the exercise is intended to enhance public safety and not cause panic.

The statement also commended civil society groups, the media, and members of the public for their strong condemnation of the recent attacks on security personnel involved in the anti-galamsey drive.

“The Security Services commend civil society groups, the media, and individuals for the massive condemnation of the unwarranted attacks… and count on the continued cooperation of the general public,” the statement concluded.
