Chris Hughton: Otto Addo is a good coach

-

Former Black Stars coach Chris Hughton has praised Otto Addo, describing him as an exceptional tactician.

Addo faced intense scrutiny after Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), marking the country’s first such miss in over two decades. However, he redeemed himself by guiding the team to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico next summer.

This achievement makes Addo the first coach to lead Ghana to consecutive World Cup tournaments.

In an interview with 3Sports, Hughton lauded Addo’s professionalism and character.

“Otto Addo is a very good coach. He has now taken the team to two World Cups, not something many coaches do,” Hughton said. “He is a good coach. As an individual, I like him a lot.”

Hughton, who previously managed the Black Stars at the 2023 AFCON, also served as a technical advisor during Addo’s first stint in charge of the national team.

The Black Stars will learn their group-stage opponents for the 2026 World Cup on December 5.
