The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested a Southern African national at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) for attempting to smuggle more than 30 kilograms of cannabis into Ghana.
The suspect, arriving on a flight from Thailand, was apprehended after intelligence prompted a thorough search of his luggage. The cannabis was found carefully concealed in vacuum-sealed packages within his personal belongings.
In a surprising development, an airline official stationed at KIA was also arrested for allegedly assisting the suspect in evading routine security checks.
NACOC officials indicated that preliminary investigations point to a coordinated effort between the foreign national and the airline worker to smuggle the illicit substance into the country. Both individuals are currently in custody and cooperating with ongoing investigations.
The Commission reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on drug trafficking, assuring the public that strict measures remain in place to detect and prevent such activities. NACOC further warned that anyone found complicit in narcotics-related offenses—regardless of nationality or position—will face the full force of the law.
