Media Relations Officer at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Paa Kwesi Schandorf, has assured Ghanaians that the government remains committed to the exploration of lithium, despite delays in the Ewoyaa Lithium Project.
Speaking on Joy News, Schandorf emphasised that the sector is “pregnant with a lot of prospects” and has the potential to boost economic growth and create jobs.
“The government of Ghana takes this issue very seriously because lithium is pregnant with a lot of prospects. Apart from adding to our economic fortunes, the exploration thereof would also advance the government’s cause to create jobs,” he said.
He noted that ongoing discussions around the project are currently before Parliament and at the cabinet level. Schandorf expressed optimism that the matter would reach a final resolution by the end of the year.
“So that the hopes that you say have been paused will be revived… Government appreciates the prospect, is interested in the exploration, and the sector minister also sees the fortune embedded in it,” he added.
The comments come amid public concern over delays in the Ewoyaa Lithium Project, which had initially raised expectations for job creation and foreign investment.
Schandorf reassured stakeholders that the government remains committed to advancing the project and will communicate developments once cabinet discussions are concluded.
