Traders at the Kintampo market in the Bono East Region are counting their losses after a devastating fire razed down several stores in the early hours of Sunday.
The inferno, which broke out before dawn, destroyed containers and shops containing food items, cooking oil, and other goods worth thousands of cedis.
Some of the affected traders who spoke to Adom News said they were left with nothing, appealing for support to rebuild their livelihoods.
According to Station Officer II of the Kintampo Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Jehoneg Ahmed, the fire caused extensive damage before personnel could bring it under control.
He explained that the delay in their response was due to the victims’ inability to reach the Fire Service on time.
“By the time we got there, most of the containers had already been engulfed in flames,” he told Adom News.
Officer Ahmed advised traders and residents to always have the Fire Service’s emergency contact numbers readily available and to observe basic fire safety precautions, especially as the dry season approaches.
