Otto Addo will keep core players for Asia tour – Henry Asante Twum

Communications Director for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has hinted that Black Stars head coach Otto Addo will maintain the core of his squad for the team’s upcoming Asian tour.

The Black Stars are scheduled to play Japan and South Korea on November 14 and 18, respectively, in international friendlies forming part of their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Speaking to Joy Sports, Asante Twum indicated that while a few new faces could be called up, but insisted that Addo is unlikely to make sweeping changes to the team.

“As we speak, I haven’t seen who is in the team and who is not in the team, but I think that, as much as possible, the coach would like to continue his rebuilding exercise by keeping the core of the team. It helps in team bonding, team building, and consistency,” he said.

He also noted the limited opportunities available to test the side before next year’s tournament.

“From now to June, it’s quite a long time in football, but unfortunately, we do not have too many games, you know, to test ourselves. Because after this window, the only official or formal international window will be next year in March. That’s quite a long time.

“Then, after that, we may not play again until the two weeks leading up to the tournament. So, as much as possible, you would like to keep the core of the team together,” he added.
