Executive Secretary of Peace Council appeals to government for financial and logistical support

Executive Secretary of the National Peace Council for the Central Region, Charles Ohene-Amoah, has called on the government and relevant institutions to provide financial and logistical support to the council.

Speaking during a three-day training workshop organized by the ECOWAS Peace and Security Group (EPSG) for journalists from the Oti, Savannah, and Upper West Regions, Dr. Ohene-Amoah emphasized that such support is crucial for carrying out peace campaigns and sensitization programs across the country.

He noted that insufficient funding has limited the council’s visibility, making its activities more prominent only during election periods. In addition, inadequate office accommodations at the district level and logistical challenges have further constrained the council’s operations.

“Providing vehicles and consistent funding to all district and regional officers will allow them to engage communities more effectively and address rising cases of extremism, violence, and chieftaincy disputes, which are obstructing the country’s development,” Dr. Ohene-Amoah said.

He also praised journalists for their role in promoting peace and responsible reporting, highlighting the skills they acquired during the training workshop.

Paul Okornor Okpoti, Oti Regional Director, and Kennedy Attepo, Director of the Savannah Region, echoed the call for additional resources, noting that despite limited funding, the council continues to make progress in combating extremism and violence nationwide.

They urged the government to provide further support to strengthen peace promotion efforts across all regions.
