Aide to the former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Akosua Manu, has called for sanctions against the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Philis Naa Koryoo Okunnor, over what she described as false allegations made against former MP Mavis Hawa Koomson during the 2024 general elections.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Akosua Manu said the recent report by the Minister for the Interior, Mubarak Mubarak, has vindicated Hawa Koomson, as investigations revealed that Naa Koryoo’s convoy was never attacked as previously claimed.
“I appreciated the fact that the interior minister is experienced and honest, but I can’t deny that it is the party’s promise to investigate election violence, which is why he took action. Hawa Koomson is one of those people whose public image does not reflect who she truly is. She is not what the public has painted her to be, and the incident where she pulled out a gun cast her in a negative light. It was an unfair representation of her. I was saddened when I read her statement on the issue because she was defamed based on a lie,” she said.
She praised the Interior Minister for his honesty in presenting the findings but stressed that truth and accountability must prevail, regardless of political affiliation.
“So, what happens now with Koryoo? She has not denied any of the allegations until the report came out. No one should be shielded from wrongdoing, even in Parliament or when their party is in power. When the incident occurred, no one was willing to listen to Hawa Koomson. There should be consequences for the lies that Koryoo told; she should not get away with it,” she added.
According to the Interior Minister, investigations found no evidence that Naa Koryoo’s convoy was attacked during the 2024 elections, contrary to her earlier claims that her team was shot at by persons linked to Hawa Koomson.
