WAFU B Girls’ Cup: Our aim is to defend the title – Black Princesses coach

-

Black Princesses head coach Charles Sampson says his team is determined to retain Ghana’s title at the 2025 WAFU Zone B U20 Women’s Cup in Benin.

Ahead of their opening match, Sampson told the Ghana Football Association that the squad has quickly adapted despite arriving late and missing their first training session.

“Unfortunately, we came a bit late yesterday, so we couldn’t train as planned. We were forced to put in a lot of effort today to be ready for tomorrow [today],” he said.

The coach noted that the tournament serves as a vital platform for his players to gain international exposure ahead of their FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifier against South Africa.

“We’re taking this as a stepping stone for our World Cup qualifiers with South Africa,” he added.

Sampson further expressed the team’s determination to maintain Ghana’s dominance in the competition.

“Our aim is to win it. Being defending champions is a big motivation for the girls, and they want to replicate what their predecessors did,” he concluded.

Ghana faces host nation Benin today, Friday, November 7, 2025, with kickoff scheduled for 09:00 GMT. The tournament runs until November 11, 2025.
