President John Dramani Mahama has officially cut the sod for the construction of a 200-megawatt solar power plant at the Dawa Industrial Enclave, marking a significant milestone in Ghana’s renewable energy and industrial development agenda.

The private sector-led initiative, called the Solar for Industries Project, aims to supply clean and affordable energy to industries within the Dawa and Tema Free Zones, supporting sustainable industrial growth while reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels.

Project managers revealed that the Dawa Solar Park will eventually become one of West Africa’s largest solar installations, targeting a long-term capacity of 1,000 megawatts by 2032. The project will be executed in two phases, with the first 100 megawatts expected to be completed by December 2026.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, President Mahama described the project as a key step in securing Ghana’s energy future and advancing the nation’s green industrial ambitions.

“This project is about securing our energy and industrial growth,” he said. “It reflects our government’s blueprint to integrate energy transition, industrial competitiveness, and climate responsibility.”

The President commended the developers for their commitment to delivering value and contributing to Ghana’s renewable energy targets, reiterating government support for partnerships that promote job creation, innovation, and environmental sustainability.
