Heavy rainfall to hit parts of Ghana tonight; check out affected areas

Residents in parts of the Ashanti Region and surrounding areas have been advised to prepare for localized thunderstorms and heavy rainfall later this afternoon into the evening, according to the latest 24-hour forecast from the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet).

The advisory notes that although the earlier rainstorm system has weakened, it continues to produce moderate to heavy rainfall along the western coast, with effects expected to extend inland to the Ashanti, Bono, Ahafo, and Eastern forest belts.

Cities including Kumasi, Obuasi, Tarkwa, Goaso, Techiman, and Sunyani are likely to experience thunderstorms and rain, with a 40–60% probability. Misty and foggy conditions are also expected during the early morning hours across forested and mountainous zones, potentially reducing visibility for drivers and commuters.

As the day progresses, a mix of sunshine and clouds is expected, but late afternoon showers and evening thunderstorms remain highly likely across the northern corridor, including Tamale, Yendi, and Kintampo.

Meanwhile, residents along the coast from Takoradi to Accra can expect sunny intervals with isolated showers, and the sea is forecast to remain calm.

GMet is urging the public—especially farmers, market women, and drivers—to remain vigilant and observe safety precautions, as heavy downpours and gusty winds could cause temporary flooding and disruptions in parts of the Ashanti and middle belt regions.
